Brooke’s Mill is a long established serviced office park that is home to an array of different businesses. As well as being able to rent a convenient Huddersfield office, the office park is also home to what is probably the largest independent film studio in the north (The North Light Film Studios) and a conference/exhibition/event venue and café (The North Light).
Unusually the restoration and renaissance of the listed 19th Century Heritage Woolmill near Huddersfield has been carried out by the founding Brooke family, who had been manufacturing cloth in this valley since 1541. John Brooke and Sons Ltd, believed to be the oldest family run business in the UK, came to this Armitage Bridge site in 1798 and built the mills and cottages by the river Holme. Over generations the site has continually been expanded and adapted to changing needs.
Since the closure of textile manufacturing on the site in 1987, a hive of enterprising new businesses has grown up to replace the historic cloth making trade. New skills are being learnt and put to use to weave a different future for these mills. It’s renaissance, from a long history of wool textile manufacturing into a diverse community of growing businesses of the future, provides an ideal backdrop for enterprise, creativity and inspiration – as well as heritage living.
Brooke’s Mill first opened as an office park in 1994 and is now home to over 25 businesses ranging from Healthcare, Support Services, Arts and Design to Financial, Film Production and Training. The office park is perfectly located in a pleasant, tree-lined valley just 3 miles south of Huddersfield, between the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester, with the M62 and M1 just 20 minutes away. There are also excellent bus and rail links.
